Content Selection Policy

Introduction
The Rainbow Health Ontario (RHO) Resource Database is designed to provide reliable and up to date information relevant to the health and wellness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities in Ontario, Canada and the world. In general, RHO collects resources that reflect a broad definition of LGBT health and that provide important content in response to contemporary health issues.

Type of Content
The RHO Resource Database includes information resources such as books, reports, presentations, journal articles and videos from a range of credible, identifiable sources, including government, nonprofit, and community-based organizations. The materials collected cover areas such as health information for consumers, current research, training materials and policy issues.

Audiences
RHO seeks to engage and inform a variety of audiences including:

• Members of the LGBT communities
• Health and social service providers
• Researchers
• Policy makers
• Media
• General public 

Selection Criteria
The content included in the RHO Resource Database is determined by the following criteria:

• The material relates to the health issues and needs of LGBT communities.
• The material contributes current, accurate information about the topic.
• The material is determined to be from a valid and reputable source.
• The material demonstrates appropriate cultural sensitivity.
• The material is publicly accessible and all electronic information is available at no charge.
• The information provided can be used by a wide range of people.
• Priority is given to Canadian material, especially material that has an Ontario focus or is relevant to an Ontario audience.
• The material was published or developed after 2000 or is older material that provides unique and important information. 

Reviewing Materials
All resources identified for addition to the RHO Resource Database are reviewed first by RHO staff for compliance with the selection criteria. We may decide to reject content that does not comply with our Content Selection Policy. In addition, content that is made up mostly of advertising, sales pitches and content that is discriminatory or offensive will be rejected.The RHO Resource Database is monitored regularly and existing resources are verified and updated on a regular schedule.

All resources in the RHO Resource Database may be removed at any time if they do not continue to meet the selection criteria.

Notice of Selection
When a resource has been selected for inclusion in the RHO Resource Database, an email message will be sent to the source of the material for approval. The source will be asked to indicate via email or in writing their approval of the information included in the RHO Resource Database and their willingness to inform RHO of any change in the status of the resource.
