An important part of the Trans Health Connection Project is the

Professional Mentorship Program

What is the Mentorship Program?

This is a weekly opportunity for professional service providers across the province to call in by telephone and connect with clinicians from the Sherbourne Health Centre LGBT primary health team. The mentorship program is open to any professional (physician, nurse, social worker, mental health worker, etc) who is already working with trans clients or who Is intending to do so. Providers are invited to build knowledge, ask questions, and share experiences. The topics discussed range from specific case-based questions to more general social or ethical issues. By sharing their learning, practitioners are also creating a community of practice and establishing valuable professional networks.

How it Works

Each week at least one clinician (doctor or nurse practitioner) with extensive experience serving trans clients is on the line, as well as other providers (counsellors, therapists, mental health workers) that have expertise in working with trans clients.

They are accompanied by a wide range of different providers across the province who are at various stages of working with trans clients. One provider remarked:

"Recipe for Wednesday Lunch....... Take a warm, welcoming collegial atmosphere, add one panel of wise and dedicated experts, blend in a mix of fascinating and committed helpers from all over the province.....that's YOU!!.... stir in zesty questions and meaty issues, season generously with great energy and sprinkle on some humor. Now that's how I like my continuing education served up! "

We are so honoured to have a diversity of amazing participants on the line each week, and we are always expending! We are hearing from providers in Ottawa, Peterborough, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Windsor, Killaloe, Barrie, London, and elsewhere, and we are starting to build a community of practice with each other. Each mentorship session explores a range of questions and issues ranging from hormone doses, to mental health and advocacy concerns.

This is an incredible opportunity to learn, share, and connect to ongoing clinical support! If you are interested in participating in the mentorship program, please fill out the registration form by clicking the link below and sending it to

Once you have registered, you can join us for any sessions you want. The sessions are not mandatory, and participants are invited to call in for as long or as little as they like.
