This research examines the decision making process for lesbians using DI and the institutional, societal and personal support mechanisms and barriers that influence this process. Participants discussed reconciling being a mother with being a lesbian, finding and valuing the support received through groups for lesbian mothers, deciding on the method of becoming a parent, concerns about legal rights of donor and non-biological mother, who would be the biological mother, choosing the donor, determining names for each mother and negotiating heterosexism.
