Pushed (back) in the Closet: Research Findings on the Safety Needs of LGBTTIQQ2S Women and Trans Communities of Toronto

This is a report written to assess the safety needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, intersex, queer, questioning, two-spirited (LGBTTIQQ2S) women and trans communities, in relation to their experiences of violence and the fear of violence in public spaces, within the City of Toronto.

This project was a partnership between METRAC’s Community Safety Program and the 519 Church Street Community Centre Anti-Violence Program with funding received from the Community One Foundation.

The report summarizes findings of an online survey conducted in 2008, with the purpose of:

· Gaining a general understanding of women’s and trans communities’ experience with and fear of violence in public spaces within the City of Toronto
· Using the information to develop and enhance safety resources for these communities
