Development and Validation of Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire for Men-Who-Have-Sex-with-Men with Prostate Cancer

Participants

Participants who:i. are between 18 and 75 years of age, ii. have had previous sexual experience with men or someone with a prostate, iii. have a previous diagnosis of prostate cancer treated with surgery, external beam radiation, or brachytherapy, with/without hormone therapy.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to develop a sexual function survey specific for men who have sex with men (MSM) and others with prostates, and who have also been diagnosed with prostate cancer. This survey will be used to further research on MSM and other people with prostates who have prostate cancer, and help such men make treatment decisions.
Our goal is to reach 200 participants for this phase before we analyze results for producing a more refined assessment tool for the final phase of our study.

How will this research help LGBT people and communities?

There is a significant knowledge gap concerning sexual function for prostate cancer patients who also have sex with other individuals with a prostate, because all of the existing assessment tools are designed for the heterosexual population. The goal of this study is to develop a survey to assess sexual function after prostate cancer treatment specific for this population. Increased knowledge in this area can help guide future patients in treatment decisions.

Compensation

Each participant will also be asked at the end whether he would like to be entered into a $50 USD gift card raffle for every 10 participants. In such case, the participant will need to enter his email address. If one is selected as the raffle prize winners, then we will also need his name and mailing address. Importantly, his response in the questionnaire will not be linked to his email, name, or mailing address in our database. One does not have to participate in the raffle in order to complete the questionnaire.

What mitigation measures are in place to reduce potential distress caused to participants as a result of being part of the research study?

When do you anticipate that this study's findings will be available?
