A small sample (12) of lesbian couples that used anonymous DI in the UK was interviewed to explore their stories of becoming families. Themes emerged about the decision to use anonymous DI in order to protect the family, negotiating the scrutiny and heterosexist assumptions of DI clinicians and talking to their children about how their family is different from a heterosexual family. The authors suggest that the method of using anonymous DI to create one’s family provides a unique foundation for family practices.
