About

About Rainbow Health Ontario

Advancing 2SLGBTQ+ health equity in Ontario through provider training, resources and advocacy.

Rainbow Health Ontario helps build a healthcare system that better serves 2SLGBTQ+ people across the province. We train healthcare and service providers to deliver culturally and clinically competent care, create accessible and evidence-based health resources, support policy change, and amplify research in 2SLGBTQ+ health. As a 2SLGBTQ+-led organization grounded in lived experience and clinical knowledge, we work to close gaps in care and improve health outcomes for our communities.

Our Vision

An Ontario where all 2SLGBTQ+ people receive affirming, equitable care without barriers, stigma or erasure, and where every provider is trained to deliver clinically and culturally competent health care.

Rainbow Health Ontario is funded primarily by Ontario Health and operates as a program of Sherbourne Health, an organization committed to providing integrated health services and community programs that support diverse communities in achieving wellness.

Understanding the acronym

The acronym 2SLGBTQ+ stands for Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and other diverse sexual and gender identities. At Rainbow Health Ontario, we use 2SLGBTQ+ as our standard term, placing “2S” (Two Spirit) first to highlight the importance of Indigenous perspectives and contributions within the broader community. Language evolves, so you may see variations in the order or spelling of this acronym across our website and in older resources.
