Experience in LGBT2SQ research

Over the past 10 years, I have conducted and published research on LGB substance use. More recently (past 3 years) this research has also been inclusive of transgender and non-binary individuals. As a faculty member at Ryerson University, I also mentor and train undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in conducting research to support improved health and wellness for the LGBT2SQ+ community.

Interest in LGBT2SQ research

I conduct research examining substance use and its consequences among LGBT2SQ+ individuals. These studies aim to clarify what are risk and resilience factors contributing to increased or decreased substance use among LGBT2SQ+ youth, young adults, and adults. This research has primarily focused on alcohol use and cigarette smoking, but has also addressed polysubstance use. Ultimately, this work is meant to inform intervention work to improve the health and wellness of LGBT2SQ+.
