A new report from the US on the added challenges LGBT seniors face, Improving the Lives of LGBT Older Adults, represents the first major collaboration between LGBT advocacy organizations and US mainstream aging organizations to comprehensively examine the issues facing LGBT older adults. While confronted with the same challenges that face all people as they age, LGBT elders also face an array of unique barriers and inequalities that can stand in the way of a healthy and rewarding later life

The report examines three areas of particular difficulty for LGBT elders. These include: the effects of social stigma, reliance of informal families of choice and their unequal treatment under the law.
