Invisible Men: FTMs and Homelessness in Toronto

Homeless Female-to-Male (FTM) Transgender/Transsexual people have unique needs in the Toronto shelter system, but a failure to respond to these needs at both City of Toronto and Provincial levels has led to an absence of access to dedicated, safe, and welcoming shelters for FTMs. A new ground-breaking research report, Invisible Men: FTMs and Homelessness in Toronto, a Wellesley Institute Advanced Grant prepared by the FTM Safer Shelter Project Research Team (at the 519 Church Street Community Centre), explores the experiences, needs and concerns of FTMs in obtaining safe access to shelter in Toronto, and provides critical recommendations to city shelters, and both municipal and provincial levels of government to improve access to shelter and housing for FTMs.
