I’ve worked therapeutically with diverse populations, in correctional and community settings, with families, adolescents and adults, for about 20 years. My approach is nuanced and responsive; my lens is anti-oppressive, attachment and trauma informed, queer and trans informed and affirming, and psycho-dynamically and somatically attuned. To me, this means listening to, and noticing, communication from various verbal and non-verbal levels. It also means witnessing and acknowledging cultural, systemic, and familial legacies of power and oppression and their impact on our internal and external lives. I make use of various treatment modalities (most regularly IFS, EMDR, psychodynamic psychotherapy, DBT).
We may notice and explore parts of you that have been quiet, silenced, or that have been in the background for any number of reasons. This can be very valuable towards recognizing your fullness and multiplicity, and towards moving through life situations with greater awareness, compassion, engagement, and flexibility.
I believe we hold deep knowledge and awareness that we can experience in a space that prioritizes and practices safety, respect, curiosity, non-judgment and creativity, and that therapy works, in large part, by reliably offering this space, such that one may begin to hear oneself. I also believe that therapeutic work can be a radically liberating and ethical practice with a social justice aim and impact.
