How are transition-related surgeries (TRS) funded in Ontario?

The Ontario government covers most top and bottom surgeries (also known as “Transition-Related Surgeries,” or “TRS”) through the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). You must obtain prior approval from OHIP before undergoing any procedure in order for it to be paid. Talk with your primary care provider about getting prior approval for surgery and read the Trans Health Expansion’s TRS FAQ resource to learn which procedures are covered and more about the overall process.
